Introduction to Lossy Image Data Compression - Part 1

In this presentation, a software engineer from Accusoft describes the fundamentals of lossy image data compression. Rather than simply describing how images are compressed in well known formats like JPEG, he focuses on conveying the underlying principles in an intuitive way. After giving a general overview of the principles of lossless and lossy data compression, he describes each component of a typical image compression technique like JPEG or JPEG 2000.
